When you sign up, we ask for your email, neighborhood, and wine preferences. Why? Because recommending wine without knowing what you like is like pairing fish with Merlot — technically possible, but nobody's happy.
For drinkers: email, first name (optional), location, taste preferences, and price comfort. We use this to match you with bottles you'll actually enjoy.
For partner venues: venue name, contact info, location, and what you're looking for in a partnership. We use this to figure out if we're a good fit and how we can help.
As you use Nexxpour: the wines you log and how you rate them, your private tasting notes, the wine labels you scan, the wines and venues you save, the events you RSVP or check in to and how you rate them, and — if you turn notifications on — a token that lets us send them to your phone.
What we don't collect: a record of where you go. The app uses your location only while it's open, only to show which bars are nearest, and never stores it. Checking in to an event records that you checked in, not where you were standing.
We use your data to build a wine discovery platform that doesn't suck. Specifically:
- Match you with wines based on your taste profile
- Show you nearby venues that pour bottles you'll love
- Remind you about things you asked for — an event you're going to, a saved wine that's back on a list
- Tell you what's on at venues you saved, but only if you've switched that on
- Update you about early access and launch details
- Improve our matching engine so recommendations get better over time
We don't sell your data to third parties. Not now, not ever. Your wine preferences aren't currency.
We don't spam you. You'll hear from us when we have something useful to say — like when we launch in your neighborhood or add a feature you asked for.
We don't tell venues who you are. A venue sees totals and averages about its own wine list and events — how many people poured its wines, how many are going to its event, and an average rating once at least three different people have rated. It never sees your name, your private tasting notes, or your rating of the venue itself.
Notifications are off until you allow them on your phone, and you choose which kinds you get under You → Notifications in the app.
- Event reminders — an hour before an event you said you're going to. On once you allow notifications.
- Saved wines — when a wine you saved comes back on a venue's list. On once you allow notifications.
- News from venues you saved — what's on at places you've saved. Off unless you switch it on, and you can switch it off again at any time.
We send news on a venue's behalf — the venue never learns who received it — and never between 9pm and 9am. If you sign out, that phone stops getting notifications for your account.
When you scan a wine label in the app, the photo is sent to Google's Gemini API, which reads the label for us. We don't keep the photo.
We keep what was read — the wine's name, producer, vintage, region and grapes, any awards printed on the label, and its taste scores — in You → Your scans, where only you can see it. Venues never see your scans.
You can scan five labels a day. Removing a scan deletes what was read; we keep a note that a scan happened until the end of that day, so the daily count stays right. Deleting your account deletes all of your scans.
Venues photographing their own shelves use the same reader. Those photos aren't kept either — only the wines the venue chooses to add, and any bottle pictures it chooses to publish on its list.
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information. Think of it like temperature-controlled wine storage — properly maintained, carefully monitored, and taken seriously.
Your data is stored securely, encrypted in transit, and accessible only to team members who need it to build and improve Nexxpour.
You can request to see, update, or delete your data at any time. Just email us at pour@nexxpour.com and we'll handle it faster than a sommelier can open a bottle.
In the iPhone app you can delete your account yourself under You → Delete my account; it removes your profile, palate, pours, ratings, saves, check-ins, scans and notification tokens for good.
You can also unsubscribe from our emails anytime, and turn any kind of notification off in the app or in your phone's Settings. No hard feelings. We'll still be here when you're ready to discover great wine.
We use basic cookies to remember you're over 21 (required by law) and to keep you logged in. We don't use invasive tracking pixels or sell your browsing behavior.
We may use analytics tools (like Google Analytics) to understand how people use our site, but this data is anonymized and aggregated.
If we update this policy, we'll post the changes here and update the "Last updated" date below. For major changes, we'll email you directly.
